Rescue Squad Seeks Donations Through Letter Drive
The Henderson County Rescue Squad Inc., which formed in 1957, is seeking donations through a letter drive that began November 1st, 2012. The Rescue Squad is an IRS approved 501(C)(3) non-profit tax-deductible corporation. One hundred percent of your tax-deductible donation will go to support the Rescue Squad in much needed capital improvements. The Rescue Squad is made up of 53 dedicated volunteers whose mission is to serve Henderson County in case of an accident or a disaster. In 2011 the Rescue Squad responded to over 533 calls for service. These calls for service included medical emergencies, water rescues, automobile accidents, rehab at structure fires, missing person searches, and medical standbys for EMS and at community events such as football games and the Apple Festival. The Rescue Squad is certified as a Heavy Rescue Provider and is also High Angle Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue and Dive Rescue certified through the NC Association of Rescue & EMS.
Yes, we give our time, but the supplies and equipment needed to do our job are expensive. Henderson County has allocated money this year to help cover part of our operating costs; however, help is still needed for equipment and capital improvements. Please let that help include you. Over the next few years we will have several vehicles which will need to be replaced due to age, including two ambulances which are over 20 years old. Our goal is to begin setting aside funds and attempt to secure grants to allow the replacements with minimal financing.
