Rescuers Respond to Coast for Hurricane Irene

irenehouseOn Friday September 26th at Noon the Henderson County Technical Rescue Team was deployed by North Carolina Emergency Management in preparations for the landfall of Hurricane Irene.  The 22 person team was made up of rescuers from the Henderson County Rescue Squad, Dana Fire & Rescue, Mills River Fire & Rescue, Mountain Home Fire & Rescue and Valley Hill Fire & Rescue.  The team staged Friday night in Goldsboro, NC and was moved into New Bern, NC on Saturday the 27th during the landfall of the storm.

Once staged in New Bern four teams with four rescuers were sent into affected areas throughout New Bern and Craven County to assist with assessment and rescue operations.  Teams were joined with a detachment of high clearance vehicles from the NC National Guard who assisted with transportation where needed.  Teams work throughout the day and night Saturday and were released to return to Hendersonville late Sunday.  For their outstanding work during the deployment each of the personnel were presented with certificates of appreciation from the Henderson County Commissioners.
